Colour Mixing

Have you seen this website http://design-seeds.com ?

It’s great for colour inspiration for decor or fashion.  I can see myself using it a lot in the future.  I’ll probably be searching for a colour I already have i.e. wall colour and finding some good accent colours but you can also seach by theme such as “Vintage” etc.

Orchids on your Budget

Okay, yesterday was Budget day in the UK, which isn’t terribly exciting and normally involves me filling up my petrol tank before it goes up…again.  It did remind me of a book that I read a couple of months ago though called “Orchids on Your Budget”.

I was buying my husband a Christmas gift from Amazon and one of the items on the ‘things other people have bought’ list was this book:

 Product Details

It was written by Marjorie Hillis in 1937 and the style of the cover looked ever so stylish and being a bit of a skinflint the content sounded good to me too.

I wasn’t disappointed.  After reading the book I feel more contented with my lot.  If you’re interested in budgeting your finances it’s a good general book to read with lots of (still quite relevant despite the period it was set in) case studies.  It won’t tell you how much to spend on food or clothes or your home.  That’s not the point of the book at all.  It will tell you to work out what makes you happy and spend on that if you can afford to.  To me it seemed as though the author was saying not to try and keep up with the Joneses – doubly so if what the Joneses have won’t make you happy after all anyway which seems like very sensible advice indeed.

I came away from the book with the idea that I should budget using a price per smile principle (completely made up but doesn’t it sound good)? Oh, and I also asked my husband to buy me an orchid instead of birthday present this year.

Beauty Wish List Spring 2012

Babyliss Big Hair – I’ve heard both good and bad reviews but feel like giving it a go if I can get a good deal on it.  Quite probably one of those electronic things that get pushed to the back of a cupboard after a month so I really really don’t want to spend too much.

Red lip stain – I have Benetint but it’s more berry than red on me and I would like a true red stain if anyone has an recommendations?  What the heck, I’ll put Benefit Posietint on the list too just to complete my set (I already have Benetint original and Cha Cha Tint).

Benefit Posietint Posie Tint - Poppy Pink Tinted Lip & Cheek Stain

Korres Lip Butter – no idea why but everytime I see it online I want it.

Korres Lip Butter - Mango 6g

Eyes Lips Face (e.l.f.) HD powder – another one I’ve no idea why I want it but doesn’t it sound cool and as though it’s going to make you look like Angelina Jolie for £6.

Reading

What do you love to read?  I use the Kindle app on my iPhone or buy collections from The Book People when they have special offers on.  I can rarely bring myself to pay more than £5 for a book and thankfully like reading the free classics on Kindle.  I’ve recently read Stephen King 11.22.63 as the reviews said it was on par with his early writing but I was a bit dissapointed in truth.  It has prompted me to dig out the JFK DVD though so when I’ve got a spare three hours I’ll sit down and watch that.  I read the first ten books in the Sookie Stackhouse/True blood series a year back (they are short and easier to read so you can quickly whip through them) and decided to read another in the series after such a heavy Stephen King book.  I’ve just put down The Stepford Wives and started Eve Green (nearly crying already and only just got past the first chapter).  Not sure what to go onto next but I quite fancy The Hunger Games?

Weleda

I had heard of Weleda long before I actually used any of their products.  I subscribed to Red Magazine this time last year and got some free products with my subscription and absolutely loved it.  So far I’ve tried the following:

Pomegranate Body Oil

Love, love, love, love, love this and as an added bonus (and unexpected side effect) it reduced my cellulite with regular use.  I tend to suffer from dry skin on my shins and have tried all sorts in the past and oils tend to be the only thing that work.  Smells delicious and a little goes a long way leaving a light sheen to the body.

Pomegranate Handcream

Lovely smell and it does the job.  I like that it sinks in quickly and it’s a good everyday handcream that leaves the skin feeling supple.  Probably not my holy grail handcream so I’ll keep trying others when this runs out.  For now it’s in my drawer at work and gets used daily.

Pomegranate Shower Cream

I like that the shower creams are in the same fragrances as some of the other products but I wasn’t blown away by it – just did its job I suppose but I was after a little something… more.

Buckthorn Body Oil

After the success of the Pomegranate Body Oil I decided to try another and plumped for the citrussy smelling Buckthorn.  It’s very orangey in colour and leaves a slight golden sheen – excellent for the summer.  I have a lot more of these oils on my wish list!

Chestnut Toning Soak

When I was on their site I was reading the descriptions of the different products and this one caught my eye.  It sounded like a real pick-me-up product to get me through the cold season.  It has a mainly lavender scent and contains Arnica so promises a very relaxing bath despite it’s name.  Can’t really say I noticed any toning specifically but a very enjoyable bath never the less.

Skin Food

My holy grail moisturiser!  I have combination skin that often gets dehydrated and I love this product.  It seems to leave my face at a steady state all day so no oil slicks and no flakey patches.  So good that I’ve actually re-purchased (okay my first tube kamikazied down the bog) which is most unlike me.

Another Rubicon Exotic drink review

Rubicon Lychee Juice Drink 1 Litre (Pack of 12)

My mam was giving this to my daughter and nephews at the weekend and they were loving it, so I thought I’d give it a try too, and another it’s another Rubicon Exotic one to recommend to you.  I don’t drink alcohol and the fall backs of cola and orange juice get a bit dull at times so it’s always nice to find a slightly different soft drink on the market.

Okay, possibly not your bag if you don’t like Lychees in the first place but this is gorgeous!

Nail Polish

I own a fair few nail polishes.  My husband would say too many but as my total is under the 100 bottles mark I disagree!  My polishes were collected over a span of 10 years and I thought it about time to organize them somehow.  I flitted with the idea of a stand like these

Avonstar classic range nail varnish rack (cosmetic white)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avonstar-classic-varnish-rack-cosmetic/dp/B004W6MA9C/ref=pd_sim_sbs_beauty_2

from Amazon, £21.50 plus P&P, but weighed up how many new polishes I’ve be able to buy for that kind of price (especially as I’d need more than one) and decided I’d stick with my current gift box storage.  I did however purchase some nail practice wheels so I could swatch my collection and practice some nail art too.  They were dirt cheap from ebay so soon I shall be able to glance at all “my precious” colours.  The post from Hong Kong is either surprisingly quick or really slow so not sure when I’ll get a group photo sorted but I’m looking forward to it in a nail polish addict kind of way.

I’ll use this blog to chart my nail art progress and I think it’s reallistic to do one per month perhaps.  Starting with glittered sponged tips in March and possibly working my way up to water marbling!

I love discounts

Yay, there was a discount on one of my craft wishlist items:

Big & Juicy Rainbow Dye Inkpad 5 Colors-Vibrant Primary

I’ve got a lot of cards to make this weekend – wonder if it’ll arrive in time for me to have a good play?

Very also offered me £20 off a £50 spend which I couldn’t refuse so I’m collecting these from a local newsagents shop tomorrow:

Organza Shawl

They are Clarks Organza sandals and come in tan, black or bone.  All the reviews I’ve seen say they are really comfortable so fingers crossed.

Roses are… pink!

Roses

Wild Rose Body Oil Weleda 100ml, £16
OPI Nail Polish Japanese Rose Garden 15 ml, £7.85
Fentimans Rose Lemonade 750ml, £2.98

I love anything with a rose smell or taste and I’ve put together a polyvore set with some of my favourites (or things I’d like to try that I’m sure would quickly become my favourite!).

I am very happy that so many other people obviously liked Twinings Rose Garden Tea enough that it’s no longer a limited edition.  In fact I’ve tried an awful lot of Twinings tea and would recommend you try their White Tea with Pomegranate or one of the African Honeybush range too.

I also have a lot of OPI nail polishes and the JRG is a lovely vintage shade of pink.

The rose body oil by Weleda has been on my beauty wish list for a while but it also seems to be one of their most expensive body oils boo.  I think I’ll do a beauty wish list post next…
