Week 10: Colours – Gradient
Another tricky one for me mainly becuase I’m never happy with the way my gradients turn out. After not getting on too well with the cosmetics sponge last time I attempted this I used an off-cut of kitchen sponge (anyone else hate the feel of sponges or is that just me?) and it was worse. Then there is the issue of getting colours that ‘go’ to contend with as well.
Nail bed: Barry M Instant Effects in Gold Foil
Nail tip: George Molten Metals in Enchanted with Elf Golden Goddess.
That’s the colours finished with and on to the second part of the challenge list, patterns, next week.
Well we’ve managed to get to Red Lobster (boy was I stuffed after that) but I’ve swapped out the Dunkin Donuts for some sugar and cinnamon Churros from ChurroMania and very nice they were too!
Also, when in Rome and all that, I picked up some PopTarts from Wallmart. Limited edition Red, White and Blue (red ‘fruit’ filling with white star sprinkles on blue icing) and S’mores flavour. Now, I’ve never tasted actual S’mores but the PopTarts were jolly nice this morning for breakfast.
I’ve actually been very pleasantly surprised by the high quality (and not too high a cost) of the snacks and drinks with the Disney theme parks. They have some red berry ice lollies that taste like pureed fruit and today we bought a sausage sandwich which was a proper sausage inside of a french stick. Strange but tasty!
A couple of things I do find very odd is the concept of salad coming before the meal rather than as an accompaniment and the potato or vegetable option with a main meal? In the UK it’s a given that you’ll get something potato-y and veg, more likely a selection of seasonal veg. Most kids menus we’ve seen in the US don’t even have the option of a veg so we’ve had to order a side of veg just for my daughter who adores her cooked vegetables. I do like the option of milk as a kids drink though.
I’m loving all the options for iced tea and the frozen lemonade is to die for.
Week 9: Colours – Rainbow
Gah, I thought this was going to be the easiest of the challenges but everything I tried seemed to look inadequate (and sometimes inept if I’m completely honest). I got there in the end though with the help of some self adhesive gems from my craft stash:
Two coats of George Deceit with a central row of rainbow coloured gems. Another use of false nails so I could get a long enough line of gems on! It kind of reminds me of an 80’s Peridot clown.
Well I’m on holiday in Orlando so I’m not going to join in Mrs M’s link party this week because I don’t have any intention of cooking this week!
I will however tell you what I had for breakfast at Denny’s this morning: French Toast with fresh banana slices on top, a sprinkling of icing sugar, caramel sauce and some crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage all washed down with strawberry smoothie. It was very nice and after that lot it probably wouldn’t surprise you to learn I haven’t eaten anything else since (bar a Coke Float (is it a food or a drink?))!
After a trip to Disney World today we’re planning on ordering in some Chinese food in little square boxes and vegging in front of the TV to give us a rest.
For the rest of the week we’ve planned to try the following:
- Tacos at Taco Bell
- Snow Crab Legs at Red Lobster
- Dunkin Donuts – as a snack rather than a main meal obviously
Week 8: Colours – Metallic
I thought I’d have a go at some splatter nail art this week. I splodges some metallic polish on a paper plate and dipped the end of a drinking straw into the splodge before blowing the polish onto the nail. The extra splatters on the plate was me practising how hard to blow!
Plain polish is Nails Inc London Nights and the splatter is W7 Gold.
Verdict: It was a bit messy but very easy to do. I’d like to try this with some brighter colours next time I think.
An emptying the fridge and freezer week for us this week!
So we’ve reached the end of the rainbow (the pot of gold will be next weeks challenge).
Week 7: Colours – Black and White
This week is a cheats gradient, I just used the brush fairly dry on the interface between the colours. I used Nails Inc Floral Street as a base, with George Deciet from the half way point, finishing off with Nails Inc London Nights. Quite a striking colour combination. I didn’t think I’d be able to do the challenge very well this week but I surprised myself just by trying something a little different which I suppose is the whole point of the challenge?
